The judge examines the dogs. The pups are supposed to maintain a "sit" and "rest" (stay) while having their ears, mouths, feet, and the rest of their body handled by a stranger. The judge critiques not only the behavior of the dog, but the condition they are in. Ears should be clean, nails short, and coat in good shape.

The handlers walk their dogs around the ring. The dogs should be calm and mannerly, keeping a matched stride with the 4-H member. The judge observes and grades how well the dog responds to the handler.

The dogs are supposed to "sit" and "rest" while the handler steps away. The pup has to "rest" for a full minute without breaking.

Since many of the residence of Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Home would not be able to go to the West End Fair, the staff decided to put on their own mini-fair. We spent an hour or so mingling with the people and answering questions about The Seeing Eye puppy raising program.
