The 7th grade welcomed The Seeing Eye and two puppy raising clubs to
their school to explain what
The Seeing Eye is and what it does for blind and visually impaired people.
We spent the day speaking
to several assemblies.
This was one of the students who donated her time. She holds one of the "puppy
banks" that will
be placed in all of the homerooms. Students can donate a penny or more (hence
the name "Pennies
for Puppies). All money collected will benefit The Seeing Eye, which is
a nonprofit organization.
The students learned that the total cost of raising and training a Seeing Eye
Dog
comes to around $50,000. Every penny helps!
Puppy Coordinator Lisa Radcliff explains some of the history behind The Seeing
Eye.
With her is Kodiak, the 17th dog her family has raised.
Rosie and Envy try to sneek in some play time, while a pup from the Luzurne
Club, Pawsabilities,
watches.
We demonstrated some of the basic training that occurs in our "training
circle"
at our monthly club meetings.
After each assembly, the students had the opportunity to meet our pups.
Some of us make our way to the back of the room.
Envy awaits the crowd.
Envy enjoyed the attention. She remained sitting like she was supposed to
when the students pet her.
Rosie liked going to school!
